Sometimes a colorized photo really brings the subject to life! Meet Annie Katherine Burns sporting a lovely (Spring?) hat taken in 1885 Missouri.

Thank you Lyle for sharing this wonderful treasure with the world!

I am from Missouri. Whenever I see these pictures of women wearing layers of long heavy clothing, I always hope the picture was taken in the Winter! How did they ever manage to wear those heavy clothes in the summer?

One of my aunts (born in 1912) remembered that her grandmother always wore her petticoats, summer & winter, so that no one could "see through her."
so did my grandmother born at midnight on dec 31 just as the century was changing

Are you sure "colorized" is the right term to describe this photo? I think you mean "hand colored," which was done using inks. "Colorizing" is when you use a computer to color a b&w image.

I know me too, Lake O here, I always wonder how the indians managed all the chiggers and misquitoes besides the heat and humidity.

I am taking on the role of family historian! I am very excited and can't wait to start the continuation of the family tree! Wish me luck!😉
The Auld side of my family came to America in the mid-1700s. The Schafers have been here for some time and I am still researching their origions.
