    William Truman Giltz was born on a chilly December 12, 1909, in the state of Indiana. He was the child of Phillip Giltz (1872-1925) and Josie Gouch Giltz (1874-1943). Phillip, his father, was a hardworking man who worked as a farmer, and his mother, Josie, was a homemaker who raised William and his siblings, Arthur Monroe, Everte, and Hubert Giltz. Growing up, William was an active child who enjoyed playing outdoors and exploring nature. He attended a local school and graduated from high school in the late 1920s. After completing his education, he moved to Brazil, Clay, Indiana. In 1930, William met Hazel Pauline Bennett, and they fell in love. They married shortly after and started a family. They had two children, a son, William Arthur Giltz (born 1930) and a daughter, Ramona Constance Giltz (1935-2011) whom they loved dearly. William enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He served for over a year and a half, from April 1944 to January 1946, before being discharged from the Army. During his time in the military, he likely saw significant combat and experienced the harsh realities of war. William's life was cut short when he passed away on June 20, 1966, in Detroit, Michigan. He was only 56 years old. His passing left a void in the hearts of his family and friends, but his memory lived on through the stories they shared about him.
