He had siblings Eveline Jane Ducrow, Christina Ducrow, Nellie Ducrow, James Ducrow, William Thomas Ducrow, Eva Ducrow, Elsie May Ducrow, Eva Newman, and Nellie Flight. William Ducrow died at age 1 year old in 1907 in Footscray.

In 1906, in the year that William Thomas Ducrow was born, abolitionist and suffragette leader Susan B. Anthony died, before women's right to vote nationally was realized (in 1920). She, along with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, founded the National American Woman Suffrage Association which later became the League of Women Voters. She died at the age of 86 of heart failure and pneumonia in her home in New York.

In 1907, in the year of William Thomas Ducrow's passing, the Monongah coal mining disaster occurred on December 6th, happening at the Fairmont Coal Company’s No. 6 and No. 8 mines.. Over 361 miners were killed. Because there was no breathing apparatus at the time to help rescuers, recovery efforts were greatly hampered. It is considered the worst mining disaster in American history and led to government oversight in mining practices.
