He had siblings Robert James Sands, Charles William Sands, Maude Ethel Eleanor Sands, Rosetta Sands, Alfred William Sands, Emma Susan (Sands) Stent, Elizabeth Jane Sands, Louisa Sands Fairweather, and Walter Frederick Sands. William Sands died at age 1 year old in 1860.
