William Dawson Gartman 1870 - 1936

William Gartman was born in 1870 to James C. Gartman and Sarah T. (Hobbs) Gartman. He was in a relationship with Fannie Lou (Etheridge) Gartman, and had children James C Gartman, Leonora M. Gartman, William Dawson Gartman, Jr., Clarence Thomas Gartman, Fannie Belle (Gartman) Poyner, and Paul Edward Gartman. William Gartman died at age 65 years old on August 9, 1936.

In 1900, he was 30 years old when the U.S. helped put down Boxer Rebellion. The Boxer Rebellion took place in China, where the presence of "outsiders" (foreigners) was resented. The United States, along with Austria-Hungary, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and Russia, had business interests in China and these countries all sent troops to put down the Rebellion and keep China open to their presence and to Christian missionaries.
