Walter Stuteley of Spri Australia was born in 1879 to Agnes Boyle Stuteley and William Stuteley. He had siblings David William Stutely, Isabella Emily Stuteley, Walter Stuteley, Flora Stuteley, Agnes Jessie Stutley, and David William Stuteley. He married Annie (Kirkpatrick) Stuteley, and had children Violet Louisa Stuteley, Hector Wallace Stuteley, William John Stuteley, Donald Stuteley, and Doris Parsons. Walter Stuteley died at age 76 years old on June 6, 1956 in Springvale, Victoria.

In 1879, in the year that Walter Stuteley was born, on October 22nd, Thomas Edison tested the first practical electric light bulb. Lasting 13½ hours before burning out, it used a "a carbon filament or strip coiled and connected to platina contact wires". He applied for a patent on November 4th, receiving the patent in January 1880.
