He had siblings Louisa Sarah Jane Sandilands, Francis Aylward Sandilands, Florence Julia Elizabeth Sandilands, Mary Ann Brierly Christmas Sandilands, Amy Gerte Nimo (Sandilands) Johnson, Arthur Ernest Sandilands, Herbert Charles Nimmo Sandilands, Frederick Erskinea Sandilands, and John Henry Sandilands. He married Annie Symes Mansford in 1904, and had children Koromiko Floss Franc Sandilands, Marjorie Shirtcliffe Sandilands, and Douglasdale Walter Sandilands. Walter Sandilands died at age 80 years old on November 9, 1955 in Caulfield, City of Glen Eira County.
