Vincent Greenhill had siblings Edwin Warren Greenhill, Alfred Ernest Greenhill, Alice Maud (Greenhill) Kay, Alfred Ernest Greenhill, Eleanor Beatrice (Greenhill) Bailey, Matilda Jane Greenhill, Thomas Greenhill, and Edgar William Greenhill. He married Elizabeth Bogle Greenhill in 1904. They had children Arthur Vincent Greenhill, Dorothy Mary Greenhill, and Margery Jean Greenhill. He also married Elizabeth Bigle in 1904. Vincent Greenhill died at age 78 years old on May 3, 1958 in Fitzroy, City of Yarra County.

A former employee of the Justice Department, Hoover accepted his new position on the proviso that the bureau was to be completely divorced from politics and that the director report only to the attorney general.
