    The following appeared in The Los Angeles Times on Thursday July 13th 2000: CACHO, Victor "Butch" (23) Born March 7, 1977 in Panorama City, CA; died July 10, 2000 in Panorama City, CA. A resident of Sylmar, CA. Co-owner and Founder of Ultra Greens Nursery, Inc. Dedicated to helping the community and keeping the family together. A loving individual with an enormous heart. Survived by parents, Victor and Pat Cacho; brother, Ricky Cacho; sister, Angie Cacho and fiance, Elizabeth Rodriguez. Visitation Friday, July 14, 2000 6;00pm-9:00pm with a 7:00 pm rosary at St. Ferdinand's Catholic Church in San Fernando, CA. Funeral mass, Saturday, July 15, 2000, 2:00 pm at St. Ferdinand's Catholic Church. Interment to follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery Mission Hills, CA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Catholic Charities in memory of Victor Cacho. "An angel to the family, an angel to all...you will be missed."

In 1983, he was merely 6 years old when on August 30th, the Soviet Union claimed that a South Korean Boeing 747 jetliner (Flight 007), bound for Seoul from New York City, had strayed into Soviet airspace. Saying that they believed it to be a U.S. spy plane, the passenger jet was shot down by a Soviet SU-15 fighter - after it had tracked the airliner for two hours. All 269 passengers (including a U.S. Representative from Georgia) and crew were killed.
