Valentine George Martin, Sr
Valentine George Martin was born on 6 September 1806 to Valentine Clarkson Martin & Elizabeth Dalton, in North Carolina. He enlisted, soldier no. 158 in the United Regiment of Dragoons, on 19 June 1833. The unit was organized by an Act of Congress approved March 2, 1833, becoming the First Regiment of Dragoons when the Second Dragoons was raised in 1836. Valentine George Martin enlisted as "GEORGE MARTIN" at 27 years 0 months 13 days. He' was discharged for disability at 27 years 2 months 8 days of age after 3 weeks 4 days of service at Jefferson Barracks Military Post, on the Mississippi River at Lemay, Missouri, south of St. Louis, MO. Valentine George Martin was recorded as having dark hair, dark complexion, 5'9", and having his origin in Stokes County, North Carolina. The enlisting official was a "Wharton" with the place of enlistment recorded as Gallatin (Tennessee?)
