    Casper Star-Tribune (Casper, Wyoming) 31 Jul 1998 Fri Ty Rutledge Cheyenne - A memorial service for Ty Rutledge, 26, will be held Saturday at 2pm at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Maas officiating. He died July 29, 1998, in Torrington. He was born December 28, 1971 in Cheyenne. He married Heather Chappell on Sept 24, 1994, in Sidney Nebraska and was a rancher. He was a member of several roping clubs. Survivors include his wife of LaGrange, one daughter, Dalle Rutledge of La Grange; his parents, Tim and Bernadette Rutledge of Meriden and two grandmothers, Elizabeth Rutledge of Cheyenne and Verna Krug of Cheyenne. Memorials may be made to the Dalle Rutledge Education Fund, in care of Wyoming Bank & Trust, 120 W. Carlson, Cheyenne or 120 Main, Burns. Schrader Funeral Home of Cheyenne is in charge of arrangements.

In 1971, in the year that Ty E Rutledge was born, on May 3rd, 10,000 federal troops, 5,100 officers of the D.C. Metropolitan Police, 2,000 members of the D.C. National Guard, and federal agents assembled in Washington DC to prevent an estimated 10,000 Vietnam War protesters from marching. President Nixon (who was in California) refused to give federal employees the day off and they had to navigate the police and protesters, adding to the confusion. By the end of a few days of protest, 12,614 people had been arrested - making it the largest mass arrest in US history.

In 1980, by the time he was only 9 years old, on April 24th, a rescue attempt was begun in the Iranian Hostage Crisis. The attempt failed and 8 US servicemen were killed. Eight helicopters had been sent for the mission, but only 5 arrived in operating condition., Since the military had advised that the mission be aborted if there were fewer than 6 helicopters, President Carter stopped it. Upon leaving, a helicopter collided with a transport plane and the men were killed.
