Tristan Alexandre Lascoumes' History: 1996 - 2007

Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Tristan Alexandre Lascoumes was born on July 10th, 1996 in West Hills, California to Vincent and Jodi Lascoumes. His father, Vincent was an assistant first director on such films as "Holes", "Wedding Crashers" and "The Jane Austen Book Club". Tristan had two sisters. After several unexplained bruises were discovered on Tristan, his parents took him to the pediatrician. Tests showed that Tristan had aplastic anemia, a bone-marrow disease. Doctors said that Tristan had an 80% chance of survival, but sadly, that turned out to be untrue. Ten days after being diagnosed, he died of a cranial hemorrhage. He was only eleven years old and he was buried in Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village, Los Angeles County, California. On August 5th, 2008, a non-profit was created in Tristan Alexandre Lascoume's honor by Jodi Lascoumes, his mother, of Woodland Hills California. It was a non-profit organization created to provide laptops and additional services for critically ill children in children's hospitals throughout the community. The goal was to keep their minds off the difficulties of treatment while they were on the road to recovery. The children's foundation was dissolved on April 17th, 2012. The Tristan Lascoumes Library Fund was also established after his passing. On a website about this fund it says: "On November 8, 2007, Tristan Lascoumes passed away from complications related to a rare blood disease. As one unified community, together with his family, we mourned his passing and celebrated his life. As part of that celebration, LILA established the Tristan Lascoumes Library Fund, the purpose of which was to purchase books and DVDs for the Los Feliz library. Tristan loved to read and had such a generous and loving spirit. He was a beautiful, kind-hearted child who was always more concerned about others than he was about himself. Several individuals and families generously donated money to the Library Project which was set up on Tristan's behalf. Last year, the school was steadfast in focusing its efforts on carefully identifying and purchasing books for this project. Hundreds of books and DVDs were ordered, and as they come in they received a bookplate, a model of which is included in this article. Tristan’s legacy ultimately will live on in the form of these books and DVDs that embody his love for learning and will have longevity and relevance for many students, for many years to come."
