Thomas Allen Knotts is the son of Jesse Donald Knotts, also known as the comedian Don Knotts, born in 1924 and passed away in 2006, and Kathryn "Kay" Elaine Metz, born in 1927 and passed away in 1966. Jesse and Kathryn married in 1947, and they divorced in 1964. They had two children, Thomas and Karen Knotts. Karen is a comedian and actress. In 1990, Tom married Catherine Anne Oates at the Long Beach Unitarian Church. The Los Angeles Times published an announcement of their wedding. See the announcement at Knotts-Oates wedding. The Patent Abstract reads: Centering a multi-band VCO involves comparing a VCO tuning signal to a pre-established tuning signal window to determine whether to change the frequency band of the multi-band VCO. The frequency band of the multi-band VCO can be changed only when the tuning signal is outside the tuning signal window. Further, the frequency band can be changed as long as the VCO is being controlled by a frequency detector. Once the multi-band VCO achieves lock, the multi-band VCO is changed by at least one more frequency band as long as the VCO tuning signal is still outside the tuning signal window.

Knotts-Oates wedding

The following wedding announcement appeared in The Los Angeles Times on Friday November 30th 1990:

Knotts-Oates - Catherine Anne Oates, daughter of William F. and Cicki S. Oates of El Segundo, was married to Thomas Allen Knotts in ceremonies at Long Beach Unitarian Church. Knotts is the son of actor Don Knotts of Los Angeles and Kathryn Carling-Smith of Sacramento. The bride holds degrees from California State University, Hayward, and Stanford University; the groom from USC and UC Berkeley. The couple will reside in Palo Alto.

A GRANDSON FOR DON KNOTTS

Don Knotts begat Tom Knotts, who begat Barney Fife's first grandchild. The 8-pound boy was born Wednesday in San Francisco. He hadn't been named yet. Knotts, 68, got word of the premiere shortly after performing in "The Last of the Red Hot Lovers" in Charleston.

The actor who portrayed the sheriff's bumbling deputy in "The Andy Griffith Show" said he looked forward to spending time with the baby when the play's tour ends in August.

Tom Knotts, 36, is an electrical engineer and lives in San Francisco with his wife, Cathy.
