  • Introduction

    Talmadge's parents were George Felix Bartell (1892 - 1934) and Helen H. Grant (1897 - 1978). He had siblings George, Raphael, and a sister (private). On his World War II draft card, dated December 26, 1945 in Florence South Carolina, Talmadge was single, age wo, and unemployed. He was 5 foot 11 3/4 inches, weighed 189 pounds, and had a light brown complexion, black hair, and brown eyes. His next of kin was Mrs. H.G. Bartelle ((mother). He lived at Lowman Hall at South Carolina State College, Orangeburg. Talmadge married Harriet Ruth Entzminger (1927 - 2019) about 1947 in Richland, South Carolina and they had a son and a daughter, Barbara and Talmadge. When he died, Talmadge was the retired senior associate counsel for General Mills.

Talmadge was a former chairman of the National Equal Employment Advisory Council and served as advisory counsel for the Minnesota Civil Rights Commissions.
