MANUEL.- On the 8th September, at the residence of her son-in-law, "Blodwen," Erskkne-street, North Melbourne, Susanna Ann, relict of the late Freeman Manuel, and dearly beloved mother of Mrs. J. Owen, Mrs. J. McCalman, Mrs. R. G. Morton, Mrs. H. Graf, Mrs. E. Stevens, and Mrs. Lancashire, aged 80 years.

In 1829, in the year that Susannah (Duncalf) Manuel was born, on May 6th, the patent for an instrument called an "accordion" was applied for by German citizen Cyrill Demian. The patent described the accordion this way: "Its appearance essentially consists of a little box with feathers of metal plates and bellows fixed to it, in such a way that it can easily be carried, and therefore traveling visitors to the country will appreciate the instrument."
