Stephen Gary Wozniak of 16400 Blackberry Hill Rd, in Los Gatos, Santa Clara County, California United States was born on August 11, 1950 in San Jose. He was married to Candice Clark on June 13, 1981 and they later divorced in 1987. Stephen Wozniak has children Sara Nadine Wozniak, Stephen Gary Wozniak Jr, and Jesse John Wozniak.
Steve Wozniak, aka "Woz", is best remembered as being co-founder of Apple in 1976, but he is also an extremely talented electronics engineer and programmer, big time philanthropist (especially with education) and entrepreneur. Everyone who knows him in Silicon Valley holds Woz in high respect due to his kind nature, sense of humor and care for humanity.
Wozniak lives in Los Gatos with his wife Janet Hill and is a non-active Freemason at Mt. Moriah Lodge 292. He has three children with his ex-wife Candice Clark (married from June 13th, 1981-1987) and of course many of us know of his relationship with actress Kathy Griffin.
Woz was born to Margaret Louise (Kern) Wozniak (1923-2014) and Lockheed engineer Francis Jacob "Jerry" Wozniak (1925-1994) in San Jose, California. According to his Santa Clara County birth certificate, his name is listed as "Stephan Gary Wozniak". His mother Margaret said that she had intended his name to be spelled "Stephen", so to rectify the situation he just goes by "Steve".
He began working with Steven Paul Jobs to form Apple in 1975. He was the lead with designing the Apple II which was introduced in 1977 and was the one of, if not the, first successfully mass-produced computers. This was during a time when numerous ventures were attempting to figure out the potential of computers and how they would be utilized for business & personal use. So if you're reading this right now, you have Woz, in part, to thank!

Ethnicity & Family History
The name "Wozniak" seems to originate from Ukraine, although it may also be of Polish descent.
Nationality & Locations
Silicon Valley born and raised. Specifically, he has lived in San Jose and Los Gatos much of his life. He has ambitions to eventually live in Melbourne Australia.
He built a beautiful home at 300 Santa Rosa Dr. in Los Gatos, California which he later sold.
Early Life & Education
1968 Graduate of Homestead High School in Cupertino, California. Steve attended the University of Colorado Boulder briefly, but was quickly expelled his first year after being caught hacking the computer system and sending prank messages on it. After returning to the Bay Area, he went to the popular De Anza Junior College and then transferred to Berkeley (Go CAL!).
It was actually at Berkeley where Woz designed and built his first computer using a punch card and donated chips which they fondly named "Cream Soda".
Like many technology entrepreneurs, Woz dropped out of college before completing his studies and going to work. He did go back to Berkeley in 1981 for his degree under the name "Rocky Raccoon Clark" which is the name listed on his diploma.
Religious Beliefs
Woz is a self described 'atheist or agnostic'.
Professional Career
Immediately after dropping out of Berkeley, Woz worked at Hewlett-Packard (HP) designing calculators. Steven Paul Jobs was also working at HP at the time and the two Steves were introduced by a mutual friend. The two began working together immediately and designed then sold approx 200 'blue boxes' which enabled the users to make free long distance phone calls. Steven Paul Jobs was quoted as saying had it not been for these blue boxes that "there wouldn't have been an Apple."
In 1973 as Jobs was working at Atari for Nolan Bushnell in Los Gatos, California, Jobs once again collaborated with Woz in designing a circuit board to be utilized for the video game Breakout. Fast forward two years later, and in 1975 Wozniak began working on the computer Apple I which would form Apple. He was the first to have data display on a TV screen generated by a home computer. His leveraged this accomplishment to gather interest and inspire members of the Homebrew Computer Club in Palo Alto. Side note: This club is largely credited for establishing the microcomputer industry.
Towards the end of the 1st quarter in 1976, Wozniak had personally designed the Apple I including the hardware, circuit board AND operating system. So both hardware and software. He offered to sell this design to HP but the company denied his offer. Boy, was that foolish!
Jobs recognized the opportunity and together with Woz they sold some of their possessions to fund the beginnings of their new venture which would become Apple. The "Apple Computer Company" was officially formed on April 1st 1976 with the intent of selling computer components. While at the Homebrew Computer Club the owner of an electronics store showed interest in their product only if they came fully assembled as a complete home computer. Together, Jobs in his parent's home in Los Altos, and Woz at his apartment in San Jose, manufactured the Apple I and began selling these for $666.66.
Not much later, Mike Markkula (a Santa Clara University graduate who was semi-retired from Intel) funded the Steves and the rest is known history.
In 1985 Woz left Apple permanently as he found himself stuck in management which kept him away from his passion of designing and developing technology. He went to founding a company called CL 9 which was a universal remote business that released the first universal programmable remote in 1987.
He then went on to be cofounder or play instrumental roles in numerous businesses including Wheels of Zeus (WOZ) which created wireless GPS technology, Ripcord Networks, Danger Inc., Dusion-io, Primary Data, and I'm sure others.
As of 2020 he is now a cofounder of Efforce which used cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to make it cheaper & easier for companies to fund 'green' projects.
Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, co-founders of Apple Computer. Steve Jobs was born in San Francisco in 1955 but was raised in the Mt View/Sunnyvale area, which even then was an electronics hotbed. We're now called "Silicon Valley" but even when Steve Jobs was born, the area was the birthplace of many businesses including Memorex, Hewlett-Packard, FMC, and more.
Steve Jobs was the "business" part of the duo - Steve Wozniak was the computer guy. They were a great marriage of minds, giving rise to a revolution in personal computers.

Ohhh the blue box brings back such memories. In the early 1970s, my ex-husband and I had a best friend Bobby whose brother Jimmy was in a small group of people who had access to playing with the blue box. Jimmy was (and is) blind and had an affinity for tones, so he loved the blue box and kept talking about it (it wasn't being sold then, I believe) So one night he brought it over for us to see and play around with. How much fun was that! Calling places around the world for free - because Jimmy could tell what tones to choose. We had a lot of laughs with it. Nope, we didn't know anyone to call so we just called numbers at random. I was just out of Cal and had moved back to San Jose. After the protests and the underground culture of the late '60s and early '70s in Berkeley, San Jose seemed a little tame and very conservative. The blue box allowed us to feel like rebels! (Remember, in those days you had to pay a lot of money for long distance calls. We were "sticking it to the man" (Ma Bell) by not paying. Today, that would be called stealing.)Thank you Woz for giving this San Jose girl some fun!

Early photo of entrepreneurs Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. They're seen here looking at an early version of the "guts" for a personal computer - probably Steve Wozniak's effort. Steve Jobs was the "business guy", having the entrepreneurial spirit and vision to capitalize on what they created. Steve Wozniak was the "guts guy" - the nerd - who could build anything electronic. A happy marriage of minds that created Apple Computers.
Then an even more brilliant strategy - in the 1980's, Apple began donating computers to schools. Now a whole generation is using Apple products.
The two Steves - Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs, founders of Apple Computers. This is a photo of them together (probably working in the garage) in 1975, before they founded Apple Computer. They really became friends at the Homebrew Computer Club, where people met to build their own computers. (There were no home personal computers - only nerds built their own!)
