    Stephan Henryk Dardzinski was born on June 7, 1910 in Poland to parents Alexander Dardzinski (1863-1918) and Rozalia Halevitski Dardzinski (1871-1942). He had siblings Theodor "Theodore" Dardzinski (1894-1946), Josef Dardzinski (1896-1945), and Mieczyslaw "Mitchell" Dardzinski (1907-1964) as well as a half brother John Dardzinski (1890-1922). He immigrated to the US as a young boy and lived in Throop, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania, USA. On February 17th, 1942, he enlisted in the US Army at New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. Steve likely served in a support role rather than in a combat role during World War II. Back home in Lackawanna, Pennsylvania, USA he worked as a baker and on December 12, 1949 he married Helen M Marden in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA.

In 1930, when he was 20 years old, on August 6th, N.Y. Supreme Court Judge Joseph Crater went through papers in his office, destroyed some of them, withdrew all his money from the bank - $5,150, sold his stock, met friends at a restaurant for dinner and disappeared after getting into a taxi (or walking down the street - his friends' testimony later changed). His disappearance was reported to the police on September 3rd - almost a month later. His wife didn't know what happened, his fellow Justices had no idea, and his mistresses (he had several) said that they didn't know. While his disappearance was front page news, his fate was never discovered and after 40 years the case was closed, still without knowing if Crater was dead or alive.
