Spero Lucas of Melbourne East Australia was born in 1866 to Kostandi Lucas and Jozia Detsime Lucas. They married Adelaide Agnes Henrietta (Winslow) Meredith, and had a child Athenia Lucas. Spero Lucas died at age 57 years old in 1923 in Melbourne East, and was buried at Fawkner Memorial Park 1187 Sydney Rd, in Hadfield, City of Moreland County, VIC.

In 1866, in the year that Spero Lucas was born, Swedish chemist, engineer, inventor, businessman, and philanthropist Alfred Nobel invented dynamite in Germany. During his lifetime he held 355 patents, of which dynamite was the most famous. He also established the Nobel Prizes in his will.

In 1888, by the time this person was 22 years old, on July 25th, a court stenographer from Salt Lake City - Frank Edward McGurrin - decisively beat the competition in a typing contest in Ohio. He was supposedly the only person who used touch typing and is believed to have invented the method. Touch typing is ubiquitous now - but Frank's win is what convinced everyone that the method was good!
