Born in 1955 in Cairo, Egypt, Silvano was the second child of Maurice and Freida Gabbai. Together with his brother Albert Alain Gabbai, they all lived happily in a nice apartment at an area which is now downtown of the city. The Family had a beach house in Alexandria where they used to spend their vacation. Mr. Maurice Gabbai was the owner of a jewelry located in the most upper class hotel "Semiramis" which is now Intercontinental Semiramis.
When Silvano was just 3 years old his nightmare started as the ruler of Cairo, Nasser, summoned all foreigners including all jewish people to leave Egypt.
Gathering whatever the family could carry on a ship, the Gabbais left Egypt to Israel where part of the family had already moved. However, Israel was a very young country and Mrs. Freida Gabbai felt homesick and missed her two brothers. So, she convinced Mr. Gabbai to move again to Milan, Italy where one of her brothers was already settled.
The Gabbai Family stayed in Milan for some time. They succeeded in getting the Italian nationality and it seemed that they would stay when Mrs. Gabbai heard that her other brother, who was living in Sao Paulo, Brazil, wanted them to move there proposing partnership in a jewelry to Silvano's father.
Once more, the Gabbai Family gathered all their belongings and emigrated to Brazil.
