    The Sunday Times. Perth,W.A. Sunday April 2 1944. RECENT WEDDINGS. Wesley Church, Perth, was the scene of the marriage on Wednesday of, Muriel Isabelle, daughter of Cpl. and Mrs. A. E. Hassall, North Perth, to Cpl. Selwyn George Jorgensen, ( retired M.E. and N. G. ), son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Jorgensen, Subiaco. Miss Jessie Eaves, rendered a solo, and the bride given away by her father, was attended by her sister Gwendolyn.

In 1920, in the year that Selwyn George Jorgensen was born, on November 2, radio station KDKA began broadcasting in Pittsburgh, PA. This was the first commercial radio broadcast in the United States. Westinghouse, a leading manufacturer of radios and the backer of the station, chose the date because of the Presidential election. People liked it because they could hear about the results of the election between Harding and Cox before the morning papers arrived. Four years later, there were 600 commercial stations broadcasting in the U.S.
