Sarah May (McCullough) McElmon 1879 - 1967

Sarah May (McCullough) McElmon of Halifax, Halifax Regional Municipality County, NS Canada was born in January 1879 in United States to John McCullough and Adelaide Rebecca McCullough. She had siblings Adelaide Rebecca Cartwright and Thomas Herman McCullough. She married Elledge Havelock McElmon on June 20, 1897, and had children Albert Earle McElmon, Dewey Wilbert McElmon, Olive Nola ( McElmon) Hill, Elledge Laurie McElmon, Catherine Thomas Rose, Merle Haley McDonald, Margaret Faye Tucker, and Joyce Patricia (McElmon) Meredith. Sarah McElmon died at age 88 years old in 1967.

In 1879, in the year that Sarah May (McCullough) McElmon was born, on October 22nd, Thomas Edison tested the first practical electric light bulb. Lasting 13½ hours before burning out, it used a "a carbon filament or strip coiled and connected to platina contact wires". He applied for a patent on November 4th, receiving the patent in January 1880.
