Samuel Spooner was born on January 20, 1763 in Worcester, Massachusetts US to Lydia Fay and Amaziah Spooner. He married Hannah Williams on January 14, 1798, and they were married until Hannah's death on June 2, 1830. He had a child Oren Spooner. Samuel Spooner died at age 77 years old on April 18, 1840 in Worcester.

In 1808, by the time he was 45 years old, on February 6th, the ship Topaz - which had sailed out of Boston, hunting seals - rediscovered Pitcairn Island. The mutineers from the HMS Bounty had gone there after the mutiny in April of 1789. Only one HMS Bounty mutineer was still alive, John Adams, who had changed his name to Alexander Smith.
