He married Alice May (Hopgood) Clissold in 1895, and had children Linda Mary Clissold, Irene Mary Clissold, Finley Gordon Clissold, Horace Stanley Clissold, Hilda Florence Clissold, Studley Elroy Clissold, Ivan Edwin Clissold, Eric Arnold Clissold, Colin Sydney Clissold, and Aubrey Samuel Clissold. Samuel Clissold died at age 74 years old on March 4, 1950 in Colac.
