Rosamond (Lockett) Jeffs Cathcart of Coburg, City of Merri-bek County, VIC Australia was born in 1877 in Buangor to John Henry Lockett and Elizabeth Coutts Lockett. She had siblings Henry Lockett, Ellen Lockett, Mary Janet Lockett, Howard Lockett, Herbert Archibald Lockett, and Annie Augusta (Lockett) Briant. Rosamond Jeffs Cathcart died at age 86 years old in 1963 in Coburg.

In 1877, in the year that Rosamond Lockett was born, on March 2nd, the U.S. presidential election of 1876 was ended with the selection of Rutherford B. Hayes as the winner. Samuel J. Tilden had won the popular vote in November 1876 but 20 votes in the electoral college were in dispute. An informal agreement was made in which Hayes agreed to remove federal troops from South Carolina, Florida, and Louisiana, ending Reconstruction in the South. So, on March 4th, Rutherford B. Hayes became the 19th President of the United States.
Did you know?
In 1880, Rosamond was only 3 years old when on February 4th, five members of one family in Ontario, Canada were killed and their farm was burned by a mob. Called the Black Donnelly Massacre, the Irish family had been feuding with other citizens of the town. No one was ever convicted.
