Uncle Romeo
He was actually my Great Uncle, younger brother of my maternal grandfather Washington Horad. All of the Horad children were given their mother’s maiden name as a middle. I suppose it way to honor herself and her family for future generations.
He had the most wealth of all of his siblings, I believe. He and his wife Elsie had a beautiful home in Silver Spring , Maryland - suburb of Washington, DC.
He was a prominent Real Estate Broker and owner of his own company during the time of DC Jim Crow laws and guided many Black citizens to the purchase of their first and subsequent politics. He was active in local county politics.
His wife, Elsie, was a school teacher in the Black (“Negro”) public schools until she retired and joined the Real Estate business and helped run it with her husband and son, Romeo, Jr. after her husband died.
