    Roger Lynwood Cox, born on the 7th day of March in 1950, in Florala, Alabama, lost his battle with cancer on Sunday morning, February 27, 2011 at the age of 60. Roger passed at his home in Mossy Head in the presence of his loving family. He has moved from his earthly home and now resides in heaven with our Lord and Savior. Roger was a longtime resident of Okaloosa County. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was seriously wounded in combat during the Vietnam War. During Roger’s time and service to our country, he was awarded many meritorious awards, certificates, citations and medals, including the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, RVN Campaign Medal, RVN Gallantry Cross and Expert Rifle. Roger was baptized into the Baptist Faith at an early age and was a member of the Live Oak Baptist Church of Crestview. Roger is preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles Raymond and Pearlie Mae (Huckabaa) Cole, his grandparents, Acre and Florida Pearl (Henderson) Huckabaa and two nephews, Jason Smith and Shane Cox. Roger leaves behind his wife, Maria Linda Cox; one son, Kyle Cox, of Fort Walton Beach; Four daughters, Angie Cox Busbee and her husband, John Busbee, of Crestview, Cindy Cox, of Crestview, Marie Henderson and Sarah Locklear, of Texas; seven grandchildren, Emily and Tyler Busbee, Maddie Johnson, Tyler Locklear, Austin McCormica, Brandon Henderson; two sisters, Mary Ellen and her husband Robert Smith, of DeFuniak Springs, Elaine Arcabascio, of Bonifay; one brother, Robert L. and his wife, Deloris Cox, of Crestview. Also surviving are his longtime friend, Debbie Andrews, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Roger, you will always be an American Hero. You’re in our hearts, minds and souls where you will be kept forever. You will be remembered often and forever. We all have the opportunity to be with you again. So, for all persons who read this, you know what you need to do to make this happen. Roger, in his heart, would want us all to live that way. The family wants to think everyone ahead of time for any show of respect, kind words, gifts of good and flowers during this difficult time. A time of visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at the chapel of Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. Funeral Services will be at the funeral home on Thursday at 2 PM, with Chaplain Jim Vale officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Liveoak Park Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. Guest book and condolences are available online at www.whitehurstpowellfuneralhome.com
