Roger Alfred Syler 1926 - 1972

Roger Alfred Syler was born on August 6, 1926 in Kings County, New York United States to Richard Karl Seiler and Isabel Herta Oeser, and had a brother Herbert Richard Syler. He married Pauline Elizabeth Hagedorn in October 1950 in New Hyde Park, Nassau County, and had children Richard Roger Syler, Patricia Marie Syler, and Carol Jean Syler. Roger Syler died at age 45 years old on February 20, 1972 at Queens Village in Queens County, and was buried at Long Island National Cemetery Section 3D Site 2018 2040 Wellwood Avenue, in Farmingdale.

In 1926, in the year that Roger Alfred Syler was born, on November 15th, NBC was founded. It was the U.S.'s first major broadcast network. Ownership of the network was split between RCA (a majority partner at 50%), its founding corporate parent General Electric (which owned 30%), and Westinghouse (which owned the remaining 20%).

In 1937, at the age of merely 11 years old, Roger was alive when on May 28th, the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge opened to cars. Taking 5 years to build, the 4,200-foot-long suspension bridge was an engineering marvel of its time - 11 men died during construction. The "international orange" color was chosen because it resisted rust and fading. To the present, it is the symbol of the City that is known throughout the world.
