Robert N. Wallace 1876 - 1951

Robert Newlands Wallace of 13 Grafton Rd, in Auckland, Auckland New Zealand was born on April 20, 1876 at Renfrewshire Council 575 Cotton St, in Scotland United Kingdom to Matthew Wallace and Eliza Wallace. Robert Wallace had siblings James Wallace, Mary Wallace, William Wallace, and Matthew Wallace. He married Agnes (Jamieson) on November 4, 1902, and they were married until Agnes' death in 1905. He would also marry Elizabeth Anne Wallace on June 4, 1907 in Liverpool, Merseyside County, England and they later divorced in 1905. They had children Robert Ogilvie Newlands Wallace, Margaret (Wallace), and William Colin Wallace. He would also marry Violet Wallace. Robert Wallace died at age 75 years old on June 7, 1951, and was buried on June 8, 1951 at Waikumete Cemetery 4128 Great N Rd, in Auckland, Auckland New Zealand.

In 1876, in the year that Robert N. Wallace was born, on February 14th, Alexander Graham Bell applied for a patent for the telephone. So did Elisha Gray. A month later, on March 7th, Bell was granted the patent and on the 10th, he made his first successful telephone call - in which he said: "Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you."

In 1905, by the time he was 29 years old, the first movie theater opened in the United States in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was the first theater to show nothing but movies - silent films. Two men, John P. Harris and his brother-in-law Harry Davis, opened the Nickelodeon on Smithfield Street - charging 5 cents for admission. The first day, 450 people watched movies at the new theater - on the second day, more than 1500 people stood in line to get in.
