    Robert Martin Bodoh was born on Febraury 6, 1924 in Phelps, WI. He is the son of James Joseph Bodoh (1881-1955) and Katherine Eleanor Laux (1886-1962). He had siblings Margaret Ellen (1909-1964), Donald James (1911-1927), Allan Eugene (1913-1988), Corrine Esther (1916-2004), Ralph Abram (1918-1991), Rosemary Ann (1919-2008), Rita Jeanette (1921-2012), Patrick Henry (1922-2010), Phillip Raymond (1925-1977), and Marcella Grace Bodoh (1928-1928). In 1943, he joined the United States Military and served in the Army from April 15, 1943 until his discharge date of November 18, 1945. Bob is a veteran of World War II, an Ex POW, and was a member of VFW #7591. They year after being discharged, Robert married Dorothy Tarmi Rosenberg (born 1928) in 1946. They had multiple children together. Bob loved baseball, and was a Chicago Cubs fan, and was also an avid outdoorsman.

    Robert M. Bodoh, age 77, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2001, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center. He was born on February 6, 1924, in Phelps, WI, the son of James and Katherine Bodoh. Bob grew up in Wakefield, MI. He worked in Mine Safety and Health until his retirement in 1980. Bob served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was an Ex POW and was a member of VFW #7591. Bob loved baseball, especially the Cubs, and was an avid outdoorsman. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Bob married Charlotte S. Terry on June 1, 1985. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends including his wife, Charlotte of Madison; his children, Vicki Johnson of Little Lake, MI, Karen Prouty of Silverdale, WA, Gary (Barbara) Bodoh of Westwood, CA, and Billie (Fran) Finco of Onalaska, WI; his step-children, Gail (Ron) Degler of Madison, Carolyn Terry (Ray Matekine) of Oregon, Ronee (Jay) Bowman of Alma Center, WI, and Janee (Lynn) Erickson of Oregon; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his sisters, Corrine (Leland) James of Colorado Springs, CO, Rosemary (Cecil) Gullett of Grove Coeur, IL, and Rita Pavlovich of Ypsilanti, MI; and a brother, Patrick Bodoh of Albany, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Bodoh; and by brothers, Donald Bodoh, Phillip "Ray" Bodoh, Allen Bodoh and Ralph Bodoh. Funeral Services will be hold on Monday, May 14, 2001, at 2:30 p.m. at Gunderson East Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Dr. Burial will follow in Blooming Grove Cemetery with Military Rites conducted. Friends may call on Monday, May 14, 2001, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to HospiceCare, Inc. WSJ 5/13/2001

He had survived two assassination attempts but had subsequent physical problems, suffering 3 strokes. He was in such great pain, it is said that he asked Stalin to poison him. The circumstances of his death are still disputed. He did oppose Stalin as the next leader - nonetheless, Stalin won a power struggle and ruled as a Soviet dictator until his death in 1953.

In 1934, when he was merely 10 years old, on November 11th 1933, an extremely strong dust storm hit South Dakota, stripping topsoil. Other strong dust storms had occurred during 1933. Severe droughts continued to hit the Great Plains and the dust storms devastated agricultural production as well as people's' lives for several years. The Roosevelt administration and scientists eventually determined that farming practices had caused the conditions that led to the dust storms and the changes they implemented in farming stopped the Dust Bowl.
