    Robert Joseph Mulvihill was born on October 18, 1921 in the state of New York. He is the son of Francis Aloysious Mulvihill (1896-1972) and Marie A O'Hare (1898-1993) and had siblings Muriel Mulvihill (1924-1985), Francis John Mulvihill (1925-2001), and Donald John Mulvihil (1931-2007). He enlisted on October 30, 1941, just weeks before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Robert served in the US Navy during World War II and was assigned to the USS Lexington and USS Saratoga, two aircraft carriers that participated in major battles of the Pacific theater. As an Aviation Structural Mechanic, he played a vital role in maintaining and repairing the airframes of the carrier's aircraft, ensuring they were combat-ready. After the war, Mulvihill remained in the Navy for several more years, serving at various naval bases throughout the United States. He was discharged on July 6, 1949, with the rank of ASM2. In the 1960's he moved to Texas living in San Antonio and Harris. He married Vaudine Harrison on June 23, 1984 in Harris, Texas, USA at the age of 62. They later divorced on May 30, 1985. Robert Mulvihill passed away on December 9, 1990 and is buried at the Houston National Cemetery.

After completing his training, Mulvihill was sent to serve with the Pacific Fleet aboard the USS Lexington, an aircraft carrier that participated in many of the major battles of the Pacific theater, including the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway. As an ASM2, Mulvihill was responsible for maintaining and repairing the airframes of the carrier's aircraft, ensuring that they were in top condition for combat operations. Mulvihill remained aboard the Lexington until 1943 when the ship was damaged in the Battle of the Coral Sea and had to undergo extensive repairs. During this time, Mulvihill was reassigned to the USS Saratoga, another aircraft carrier that was also stationed in the Pacific. He served on the Saratoga for the remainder of the war, participating in many of the major battles of the Pacific theater, including the Battle of Iwo Jima and the Battle of Okinawa. After the war, Mulvihill remained in the Navy for several more years, serving at various naval bases throughout the United States. He was discharged on July 6, 1949, with the rank of ASM2.
