    Robert Fitzgerald Williams was born to Robert Ross Williams (1870 - 1932) and Ellanora E. "Nellie" Fitzgerald (1877 - 1945) on September 10th, 1906 in Evansville, Indiana and he had three siblings: one sister, Helen (1902 - 1902) and two brothers, a brother who died in infancy in 1904 and a brother, Gordon, (1904 - 1987). Robert F. Williams married Susan Jean Williams (1915 - 1979) on July 16th, 1936 and they had one son, Todd Williams (1938 - 2007). On his World War II draft card, Robert described himself as being married to Susan and as five feet eleven and 3/4 inches tall. He weighed 188 pounds, had brown eyes, brown hair, and a "ruddy" complexion. He also wore glasses. Robert then married Laura McLaurin Smith (1922 - 2001) on June 3rd, 1949 in Omaha, Nebraska.     ROBERT F WILLIAMS TIBURON - Robert Fitzgerald Williams, the father of comedian Robin Williams, died Sunday at his home after a long illness, his family said. He was 81. The Evansville, Indiana native moved to Tiburon from suburban Detroit in 1968 after retiring as regional sales manger of Ford Motor Co.'s Lincoln -Mercury division. Services for Mr. Williams, described as a great lover of the sea, sailing and boats, will be conducted by the Neptune Society, a family spokesman said. He is also survived by his wife, Laurie, another son, Todd, of Healdsburg, and by grandson Zachary Pymm Williams of San Francisco. - The San Francisco Examiner (San Francisco, California) Monday, October 19th, 1987 on page 18.

In 1906, in the year that Robert Fitzgerald Williams was born, author Upton Sinclair exposed the public-health threat of the meat-packing industry in his book The Jungle. While his intent was to show the lives of exploited lives of immigrants in Chicago and other industrialized cities, most people were horrified by how the meat that ended up on their tables was handled. There was such an outcry that legislation was passed to regulate meat packing. Sinclair said " "I aimed at the public's heart, and by accident I hit it in the stomach."
