Robert Charles Brunlow of Yarram Australia was born in 1872 to John Conrad Brunlow and Jane Cook Brunlow. He had siblings Jane Brunlow, Jane Brunlow, and John Conrad Brunlow. He married Ann Elizabeth (Eastaugh) Brunlow, and had children Leonard Charles Brunlow and George Leslie Brunlow. Robert Brunlow died at age 73 years old in 1945 in Yarram.

In 1872, in the year that Robert Charles Brunlow was born, on May 22nd, President Ulysses S. Grant signed the Amnesty Act of 1872. The Act restored full civil rights to secessionists, including about 150,000 former slaves who had fought in the Confederate Army. About 500 former Confederate sympathizers were not allowed their full civil rights.

In 1902, Robert was 30 years old when the world famous Italian tenor, Enrico Caruso, made the first gramophone recording by a popular singer. Accompanied by only a piano, his voice recordings became a big seller and did much to popularize the new-fangled gramophone. He had to sing into a metal "horn" that relayed his voice to a metal disc. And the songs had to be under 4 and a half minutes!
