  • Introduction

    My mother was NOT born into the Miskelly family, she married into it. She was born Rita Jane Hayes, oldest of 4 children of J. Howard Hayes Sr. and Blanche Hayes. Rita's siblings were J. Howard Hayes Jr., Delores and Jimmy Hayes. My mom attended the convent school. Worked as a secretary for the Girl Scouts of America, Carrier Air Conditioning Company and Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. She loved swimming playing the piano, golf and contract bridge. In her later years she ran several bridge clubs in the Syracuse area. She had a very good voice and she and my dad, John Joseph Miskelly, would sing at the drop of the hat. Rita lived on Maplehurst Ave., Grant Ave and Glenwood Ave in Syracuse NY. She and my dad went to Hawaii on their 25th. wedding anniversary. I was stationed in Japan with the USAF at the time and joined them for a few days in Hawaii.

Having gone to bed the previous night after being treated for breathing problems, the ex-President died in his sleep from a clot that had traveled to his lungs. He was 60. After a simple service, Roosevelt was buried on a hillside overlooking Oyster Bay.
