    Richard Norman Frary 1943 – 2014 Richard Norman Frary, 71, died Saturday, September 13, 2014 at his home in Stamford. Graveside Services will be 1:00 p.m .Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery near Abilene, TX with the Rev. Charles Goodnight and Jessie Villareal officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford, TX. Richard was born March 10, 1943 in Opelika, AL to William and Doris Jeanette (Smith) Baker. He graduated from Opelika High School. Richard served his country in the Air Force during the Cuban Crisis. Following his tour of duty Richard returned to Alabama and relocated to Texas during the 1960’s. He worked as a taxi driver and was a member of the Methodist Church. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, son James Frary and a brother Larry Frary. Survivors include; daughter, Jeanette Cantu and husband Rosilio of Stamford; two brothers, William Thomas Frary of Stamford and Tommy Thomas of Decatur, AL; five grandchildren, Emily Frary and husband Luis Aguilar, Carlos Cantu, Adriano Rubio and husband Armando, Victoria Cantu and Daniel Cantu; two great grandchildren, Rosie Aguilar and Yessinea Rubio.

In 1943, in the year that Richard Norman Frary was born, on June 20th through June 22nd, the Detroit Race Riot erupted at Belle Isle Park. The rioting spread throughout the city (made worse by false rumors of attacks on blacks and whites) and resulted in the deployment of 6,000 Federal troops. 34 people were killed, (25 of them black) - mostly by white police or National Guardsmen, 433 were wounded (75 percent of them black) and an estimated $2 million of property was destroyed. The same summer, there were riots in Beaumont, Texas and Harlem, New York.
