Reuben & Priscilla (Hale) McNett
A photo of Reuben Riley McNett and wife Priscilla Hale McNett. HE KNEW HIS HORSES...Great Great Grandpa Reuben Riley Mcnett was a horse breeder. Born in upstate New York in 1815, Reuben and his family moved to Northville Illinois in 1838 and then Reuben, his wife and kids moved to Brookfield Missouri in 1862 during the Civil War. For over 20 years, he bred fine horses and was well known for his stock. At the age of 70 in 1885, he, his wife and some of the grown children moved once again to Fish Lake Valley, Nevada just across the White Mountains from Bishop, California. In Fish Lake Valley, he continued to breed horses for the miners and ranchers there. This photo, likely taken in the 1870s, is of Reuben and his wife Priscilla Hale McNett. Her father was David Hale, the older brother of Emma Hale who married the Mormon Prophet Joseph Smith. So Priscilla and Joseph Smith's children were first cousins.
