Ralph Matthews died at age 72 years old on February 15, 1965 in San Jose, Santa Clara County, CA, and was buried at Mission City Memorial Park 420 N Winchester Blvd, in Santa Clara.

In 1892, in the year that Ralph Waldo Matthews was born, on October 5th, the Dalton Gang was shot. The Gang was attempting to rob two banks - simultaneously - in Coffeyville Kansas but word spread of the robberies and townspeople with guns greeted them when they left the banks. Four members of the gang were killed - only Emmett Dalton survived his wounds and spent 14 years in prison.

In 1919, when he was 27 years old, on January 6th, President Theodore Roosevelt died. Having gone to bed the previous night after being treated for breathing problems, the ex-President died in his sleep from a clot that had traveled to his lungs. He was 60. After a simple service, Roosevelt was buried on a hillside overlooking Oyster Bay.
