The organization focused on legal strategies designed to confront the critical civil rights issues of the day - which included lynching and segregation in schools. The goal was to secure for all people the rights guaranteed in the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the United States Constitution.

Ray Harroun was the winner - he was an engineer and had retired from racing but he came back for this race. After the race, he retired for good.
