Rachel Eleanor Nicholls of Ballarat East Australia was born in 1870 to Mary Wholohan Nicholls and John Nicholls. She had siblings Elizabeth Nicholls McNamara, Eliza Lavina Nicholls, Andrew Nicholls, and Mary Nicholls. Rachel Nicholls died at age 65 years old on July 5, 1936 at 3 Ebden Street, in Ballarat East.

    Rachel or Ray as she was affectionately known, operated a Florist shop from approximately 1893 until her death with her sisters Lavina, known as Love, and Elizabeth, known as Bessie, under the name Misses R. and L. Nicholls, Florist. The shop was located in the Ballarat Mechanics Institute building at 117 Sturt Street, Ballarat, Victoria, Australia.
