Marchisella's physical characteristics were recorded as follows: he was 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighed 140 pounds, with a sallow complexion, red hair, and blue eyes. His next of kin was listed as Jim Martocci. Marchisella enlisted in the military on April 20th, 1942, at Fort Jay Governors Island in New York. He joined as a Private in the Selectees (enlisted men) branch of the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA. His terms of enlistment were "Enlistment for the duration of the War or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law." This meant that Marchisella would serve in the military for the entire duration of World War II, as well as an additional six months after the war ended, unless the President decided otherwise. He served as a Private, First Class in the US Army during World War II. Paul was discharged from the military on January 14th, 1946, after serving for nearly four years.

Previously, customs duties (tariffs) and excise taxes were the primary sources of federal revenue. President Warren G. Harding officiated at the interment ceremonies.
