Patrick's Life
Patrick was born in Dublin in 1825 where his father Michael was a merchant. His mother's family were merchants in Killorglin Kerry. Patrick's maternal uncle Patrick Kissane with his family settled in Cappagh (Cappa) in Kerry Ireland around 1815-6 not far from Killorglin. His future wife's family -the Walsh Family- settled in Gortnascarry about 5 kilometres from Cappagh closer to the River Laune. He married Mary Walsh 4 May 1846 at the Beaufort Church in Kerry. His two groomsmen were Thomas Walsh and Daniel Kissane. At the time of his first two children's baptisms (1847 and 1848) he is listed as residing in Cappa (Cappagh). Patrick as Patrick Cassin became a seaman with the British Merchant Navy from 1845-1854. His wife and children lived at Cappagh when he was away at sea. By 1856 they were living in Churchtown near the Beaufort Church. In 1858 they were back in Gortnascarry where their son Timothy was born and he became a farmer.
