  • Introduction

    Patricia Morrow was born to Robert "Bob" Morrow, a Los Angeles attorney. She was raised in Toluca Lake, California. Patricia, born Feb 17 1944, was a television actress on such shows as Leave It to Beaver, My Three Sons and Perry Mason. She also had bit parts in the films Ma and Pa Kettle at Home (1954), Artists and Models (1955), The Bad Seed (1956), and The Wrong Man (1956). But her largest role was on the tv show "Peyton Place" from 1965 through 1969. Then from 1972 - 1974, she was a part of the sequel "Return to Peyton Place". On the last iteration of the show, "Peyton Place: The Next Generation" in 1985, she appeared on screen for the last time. Patricia became a lawyer and after her divorce from Lance Brisson in 1982, the son of actress Rosalind Russel, she adopted a baby girl, Marielle Margaret Morrow.     An actress, Patricia began her career in 1953 when she had the role of Constance Philbrick in "I Led 3 Lives". She went on to play small roles in several films, including "Ma and Pa Kettle at Home" (`954) and "Artists and Models" (1955). In the 1960's, she appeared in several television shows and then landed the role for which she is best known - the character Rita Jacks in the soap opera "Peyton Place" in which she appeared for four years (1965 - 1969). From 1972 to 1974, she reprised her role on the sequel "Return to Peyton Place". After her last screen role, in 1985s "Peyton Place: The Next Generation", Patricia began volunteering with kids on probation. That led her to enrolling in Glendale University College of Law, from which she graduated. She said at the time: "I want to see if the democratic process works. I want to see if it can be done. I think a lot of our difficulties are perpetuated by untrained office holders, and I resent the fact most politicians don't know a darned thing about local problems."

In 1944, in the year that Patricia Morrow was born, on June 22nd, the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, called the G.I. Bill, was signed into law, pushed through by the veteran's organizations. Benefits provided for veterans to return to school (high school, vocational school, or college), obtain low interest home mortgages and low interest business loans, and (if needed) one year of unemployment insurance. Since most returning vets immediately found work, less than 20% of the unemployment benefits were distributed.

In 1960, on May 1st, an American CIA U-2 spy plane, piloted by Francis Gary Powers, was shot down by a surface-to-air missile over the Soviet Union. Powers ejected and survived but was captured. The U.S. claimed that the U-2 was a "weather plane" but Powers was convicted in the Soviet Union of espionage. He was released in 1962 after 1 year, 9 months and 10 days in prison.
