    My father was and will always be a great man. He raised my sister and i, as well as my other siblings to best of his ability. He was a strong man who worked hard and took care of his family. He was always there for me no matter what. My father was, and still is my hero.

After hearing that Peary had beaten him to the North Pole, Amundsen decided to tackle the South Pole. On December 14th, he succeeded.
