Orville F Stoer 1928 - 2002

Orville Floyd Stoer of Cuba, Crawford County, MO was born on May 15, 1928 in St Louis to Ferdinand Theodore Stoer and Cora Ernestine Ross. He was the parent of Pamela Rae Stoer. He married Lola Marie Ramsey, and they had children Mark Ramsay Stoer and Mikel Floyd Stoer. Orville Stoer died at age 74 years old on October 23, 2002, and was buried on October 26, 2002.

In 1928, in the year that Orville F Stoer was born, Mickie Mouse was born! He first appeared in Disney's Steamboat Willie, along with Minnie. Although they were in two previous shorts, this was the first to be distributed. Steamboat Willie took advantage of the new technology and was a "talkie" - music was coordinated with the animation. It became the most popular cartoon of its day.

In 1931, Orville was just 3 years old when in March, “The Star Spangled Banner” officially became the national anthem by congressional resolution. Other songs had previously been used - among them, "My Country, 'Tis of Thee", "God Bless America", and "America the Beautiful". There was fierce debate about making "The Star Spangled Banner" the national anthem - Southerners and veterans organizations supported it, pacifists and educators opposed it.
