    The Daytona Beach Morning Journal. 30th January 1970. HILL, OLIVE N. - Calling hours for Mrs. Olive N. Hill, 70, of 1516 Peninsula Drive, Daytona Beach, who passed away Thursday morning in Halifax District Hospital, will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. today. Mrs. Hill was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, and has been wintering here for the past 14 years from Nova Scotia. She attended Westminster by-the-Sea Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Penwomen's Club of America, Daytona Beach Chapter. Survivors include her husband Frederick, and three sisters, Mrs. Randolph W. Tucker, of Virginia, Mrs. A. G. MacDonald, of Nova Scotia, Mrs. E. Meredith, of New Brunswick, Canada, two brothers, Retired Major E. Laurie McElmon, O.B.E., and Mr. A. Earle McElmon, both of Nova Scotia, Canada.

In 1916, Olive was 17 years old when suffragette Jeannette Pickering Rankin became the first woman elected to the House of Representatives as a Representative at large from Montana. She was the first woman to hold an elected Federal office. Holding the office for two years, she ran again in 1940 and served another two year term. Montana had granted women unrestricted voting rights in 1914, 6 years before women got the vote nationally.
