Norris Leech 1824 - 1916

Norris Leech was born in 1824 in Suffolk County, England United Kingdom to Norris Leech and Matilda Drane, and had a brother Alfred Leech. He was in a relationship with Eliza (Selph) Leech, and had children Norris Leech, Matilda (Leech) Wolff, Emma (Leech) Hanks, and Eliza (Leech) Hammond. Norris Leech died at age 91 years old on June 29, 1916 in Daylesford, Hepburn Shire County, VIC Australia, and was buried at Trentham Cemetery Greendale Trentham Forest Road, in Trentham.

  • Introduction

    Norris and Eliza sailed from Plymouth, England, to Australia on the ship Sir Robert Sale in 1850 with 290 other migrants. The Kyneton Guardian. Victoria. 1st July 1916. -DEATH OF AN OLD IDENTITY. The death occurred at a private hospital at Daylesford on Thursday of a very old Trentham identity in the person of Norris Leech sen. Deceased who was over 90 years of age, had been in failing health owing to senile decay for a long time past. His wife predeceased him about four years ago. One son and two daughters survive him, all being well known and respected residents of this district. Deceased 's remains will be buried in the Trentham Cemetery to-day.

    The Argus, Melbourne. 4th July 1916. LEECH. - On the 29th June, at the private hospital, Daylesford, Norris, beloved husband of the late Eliza Leech, of Trentham, and father of Norris, and the late Mrs. Wolff, Mrs. Hammond, and Mrs. Hanks ( Melbourne ). Aged 92 years. A colonist of 67 years.

None of the four candidates for U.S. President gained a majority of the electoral votes so for the first - and last - time the election was thrown into the U.S. House of Representatives for a decision, called a contingent election. John Quincy Adams won on the first vote. Another candidate, Andrew Jackson, never accepted the results and accused Adams and Henry Clay - the Speaker of the House - of striking a "corrupt bargain".
