Norman William Stirling 1861 - 1916

Norman William Stirling of Glen Australia was born on July 4, 1861 in Urrbrae, City of Mitcham County, South Australia to Edward Stirling and Harriet (Taylor) Stirling. He had a brother Sir John Lancelot Stirling. He married Williamina (Barry) Stirling, and had children Nina (Stirling) Eddy, Florence Nell Stirling, and Joanna Stirling. Norman Stirling died at age 55 years old in November 1916 at German East Africa in Dar es Salaam Tanzania.

Obituary

The Observer. Adelaide. S.A. 2nd December 1916. MR. NORMAN WILLIAM STIRLING. A cablegram from our London correspondent on Sunday reported that Mr. Norman William Stirling, formerly of Adelaide, had been killed at Dar-es-Salaam, while operating with General Botha's forces in German East Africa. Mr. Stirling, who was the youngest brother of Professor E. C. Stirling, C.M.G., of Mount Lofty, was about 55 years of age. He was born in Adelaide, and proceeded to London when quite young. After having received his education at Cheltenham Public School, in England, he returned to South Australia, and interested himself into pastoral pursuits, and later went to South Africa. The deceased soldier went through the West African campaign with Gen. Botha's forces. He has left a widow and three daughters, who are living in England.
