  • Introduction

    My Great Aunt Nellie was a wonderful lady whom I loved dearly all my life. She was the little lady that worked on her and her two brothers’ dairy farm. She could always be found while feeding and milking cows, cleaning milk cans that were almost as tall as she was and slinging hay seven days a week. On Sundays, she played hymns on her foot pump organ while her brother Joe Mills would read scripture and well-worn sermons he received from England. After church there were many times that Aunt Nellie would prepare massive family meals for all in attendance on her ever faithful old wood stove. There was always something that needed to be done and Aunt Nellie was always there to do what was needed. I only remember her sitting down when she played the organ on Sundays! All the while, Uncle Joe would take care of the heavy lifting around the surrounding 300 acres farm. My other Uncle, Joe Ruzicka, was my mother’s brother. His wife, my aunt June Ruzicka, also lived in the big farm house. Their brother, Great Uncle Bill Mills, lived in another smaller home next to the big farm house. My grandmother, Henrietta Ruzicka, lived in a mobile home next to the main farm house and my own parents, James and Mary Greenmun, lived in my grand parents former home on the farm with my two siblings, brother Reid and sister Christina. My Great uncle and aunt Mills were very religious and humble people. There was never a television in their home and I never missed it when I was with them. I have so many fond memories of them for their love of all of the rest of our family was forever overwhelming and splendid indeed. I will always cherish my time with them. Jim Greenmun
