She had siblings Winifred Alice Davis, Wellington Roy Napper, Gertrude Mary Napper, Norah Sherwood Pimley, and Gladys May Napper. Nellie Marj was baptized in 1888 in Worcester. She married James Rainforth Newman, and had children Charles Rainforth Newman and Joan Elizabeth Mary Lenham. Nellie Marj Newman died at age 77 years old in 1965 in Reading, Reading County.

Montana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas were hit, leaving 235 dead. Many of those who perished were children on their way home from school.
