I have an old studio photograph identified as Jane ENSMINGER which was taken at the Lennon Studio in Union City, MI in the 1880's. Jane appears to be in her 30's at the time the photograph was taken. Additional research notes appear on the back of the photograph indicating that Jane was b. Dec 1857 in MI based on 1900 census records and that her parents where William CONEY and Mary from Leroy Township, Calhoun County, MI. I believe the name of her birth family is COREY and based on limited research have gathered the following information regarding Jane and her family:
Nedra “Nora” or “Neora” Jane COREY was b. 8 Dec 1857 in Leroy or Athens, MI to parents William Ellery COREY (1827-1909) and Mary L. BARKER (1828-1906). She was one of 10 children born to this couple including Marian or Maria Ann; Nedra “Nora” or “Neora” Jane; Charles Elbert or Adelbert; Frederick “Fred” James; Frank E.; Goldman Harvey; Ervin or Erwin or Irvine Luther; Halsey Everett; Sarah M.; and John William COREY, all born between 1855 and 1869.
Neora was married twice, first to Martin ENSMINGER (1863-1888) on 30 Jul 1882 and then after his death she married Edgar J. CROSS (1866-1934) on 31 Dec 1902 in Battle Creek, MI. Neora died 13 Nov 1930 in Athens, MI and is buried in the Burr Oak Cemetery in that city.
I’d like to get the photograph to her family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be.
Thanks,
Shelley
