Mrs. William C. Belle Savage) (Mar) Byce was born on September 20, 1862. Family, friend, or fan, this family history biography is for you to remember Mrs. William C. (Mary Belle Savage) Byce.
In 1930, after her fourth husband, William C. Byce, had died in Atlanta, Georgia, Mary Belle left Georgia and established residence in Miami, Florida, to be near her daughter, Zella. On 11 April 1939, she joined the Mormon Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints there.
According to one of her granddaughters, Mary was visiting her son, Roy, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the day before he was to take her to the airport to return to Miami, he was killed in a coal mine cave-in. One of his obituaries in a Fayette Co, PA newspaper, however, said it was his sister, Zella, who was visiting. Hopefully Mary and Zella both had been visiting. Roy, then known as Charles R. Bishop, was killed along with one other miner, on 30 Aug 1947 in the cave-in. He was buried in the Allegheny County Memorial Park Cemetery in Allison Park, Pennsylvania.
Mary's other son, William, also predeceased her, sometime between 1920 and 1930. I do not know when or where he died or where he is buried. I do know that he was living in Pittsburgh, with his wife Anna, and son, Arthur, in the 1910 and 1920 censuses. After William died, Anna and Arthur are found in the 1930 census, living with her father, James Brennan, in Pittsburgh.
Eventually Mary Belle moved in with her daughter Mrs. Zella Churchill in Miami, and lived with her until her death 29 March 1954.
Zella died 31 August 1867. They were both in turn, cremated and their ashes buried at the Green Lawn Buial Estates in Butler, PA.
